ENGL 278 - The American Dream This course presents literary representations of “The American Dream”, tracing its changing meaning and situating such representations in the broader context of American culture. Students will read classic and contemporary literature that explores the definitions of “the dream,” where they have come from, how they have changes, the problems involved in their pursuit, the criticism of them, and the possible alternatives available to those who choose to opt out of their pursuit altogether.
