As a profession and discipline, public health focuses on the roles of populations and society to monitor and achieve good health and quality of life. Public health professionals work in diverse levels of practice in communities, promoting health, conducting research, advocating for social justice, lobbying for policy change and administrating in hospitals and public health institutions. Public health work is integrated collaboratively with other disciplines such as business, economics, education, engineering, law, political science, psychology, public administration and sociology. Public health students in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program will be able to take leadership positions in local, national and global areas of public health practice. The MPH program offers students a broad degree of knowledge that is applicable in a wide range of professional careers.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Prepare the Master of Public Health graduate to function in interdisciplinary/interprofessional roles and settings;
- Synthesize knowledge through cumulative learning experiences;
- Develop leadership systems-level thinking and problem solving skills to address complex population-based health challenges;
- Engage mastery of knowledge skills and attitudes through effective communication in experiential learning opportunities;
- Employ critical thinking in applied public health program through research, policy development and evaluation;
- Demonstrate cultural competency in population-based assessments, program development and implementation;
- Apply public health science in organizational administration and fiscal management skills.
