ED 544 - Understanding Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

This course is an in-depth exploration of the social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) from a number of different theoretical orientations. The origins, definitions, and complexities  of EBD are examined through the various behavioral patterns that characterize this area of student need including contextualization through positive behavioral interventions and supports. Inquiries into both the etiology of the problem and the effect of the disability on learning are provided. Participants are required to complete field experience hours and implement a number of course assignments with students with EBD in schools.
