ED 523 - Advanced Strategies for Content Literacy

Students explore instructional techniques that foster reading comprehension and writing skills in the content areas at elementary and secondary levels. Discussion topics include: content area vocabulary development; the role of background knowledge and experience; textbook study strategies; the use of writing to enhance reading comprehension; the importance of relevant, and the use of integrated instruction to promote critical literacy and content knowledge. Common Core Standards in disciplinary literacy will be addressed.
