ED 516 - Teaching in Inclusion Settings


An overview of the characteristics of exceptional children, with a focus on the cognitive, psychological, sociological, and medical aspects of various exceptionalities and their effects on learning. The course reviews trends and issues in the field of special education, with emphasis on adaptations and strategies that facilitate the inclusion of children with disabilities with their non-disabled peers. Topics include: state and federal regulations for the provision of special education;  strategies for making inclusion work; and interaction with families of students with special needs. Twenty-five hours of  field experience in various special education programs is a requirement of this course.
