Academic advising is available to graduate students. Deans, directors, and faculty are available to meet with students and to help them design programs of study most appropriate for their career development. Appointments can be made by contacting the office of the dean/director. See the appropriate department section in the catalog for telephone numbers.
The Office of Campus Ministry serves the spiritual, social, and personal needs of the campus community, providing opportunities where values are challenged and faith is affirmed. Activities stem from Jesus’ call to live in imitation of His commitment to faith, justice, and compassion. Rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, Campus Ministry welcomes people of all faith traditions.
Graduate students are invited to take advantage of Campus Ministry’s offerings which include pastoral support, liturgy on campus, spiritual direction, speakers, volunteer opportunities, service trips, and retreats. Campus Ministry is staffed by one full-time campus minister, a chaplain, and work study students.

Career Development Center
Career Development staff provides assistance and counsel regarding career planning efforts, including pursuit of employment. Print and online resources provide information on target industries and occupations, potential employers, job seeking techniques, and general career planning.
Programs, workshops, and individual counseling sessions are offered to assist students in the career decision-making process, as well as in job search strategies (e.g. resume writing and interviewing skills). Individualized mock interview sessions can be scheduled for facilitating job search preparation. An annual job fair held during spring semester is sponsored by the New Hampshire College and University Council (NHCUC), of which Rivier University is a member. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this annual event sponsored by the Council. The Career Development Center is located in the Learning Commons. The Counseling Center staff will provide a list of referral sources to graduate students who request personal counseling.
A student who requires special services for a learning or physical disability is encouraged to contact the Office of Disability Services at (603) 897-8497 to inquire about services available to help the student succeed academically.
Rivier University recognizes that learning styles differ from person to person. Physical, perceptual, or emotional challenges experienced by students may require additional supports and accommodations to equalize their opportunities for academic success. Rivier University wants to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities. To accomplish this goal effectively and to ensure the best use of resources, the University expects students to provide timely notice of a disability to the Office of Disability Services for verification and for evaluation of available options. Any student whose disabilities fall within Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should inform the instructor within the first two weeks of the term of any special needs or equipment necessary to accomplish the requirements for the course. Health and Fitness Center
The gym and weight fitness rooms are open to Rivier University students, faculty, and staff. A valid Rivier ID card must be presented to use the facilities. The HFC schedule is posted at the building. There are locker rooms for men and women. All those who want to use the weight fitness room must go through an orientation session. A limited number of on-campus housing units are designated for graduate students. Interested applicants should contact Residence Life at 603-897-8244.
Prior to the beginning of classes all new students must obtain a valid University ID, which is issued by the Department of Public Safety and Security Office, located at the Dion Center, Room 204. An ID can be obtained from 9:00 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. from Monday to Thursday and 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Friday during the school year. ID cards are required for checking materials out of Regina Library, admittance to computer labs, admission to all University events on campus as well as to social/cultural functions or sporting attractions in Boston and surrounding areas. Some ID cards can be used as an electronic door key for access to the residence halls. It can also be used for printing services and some vending machines on campus. University ID cards are also useful to students for obtaining meal discounts at the Library Café and in the dining hall. In order to use the ID cards at the Café and dining hall appropriate arrangements must be made at the Business Office, Room 111 located in Adrienne Hall. Lost or stolen ID cards should be reported to the Department of Public Safety and Security Office immediately; replacements will be issued and a replacement charge will be assessed if deemed appropriate. Falsifying or in any way altering an ID card is considered a serious infraction of University policy.
All students with a car parked on campus are required to have a Rivier University student parking sticker. Parking stickers may be obtained in the Public Safety Office, Room 204, or the Director of Public Safety’s Office located in Room 205, in the Dion Center. A $50.00 fee will be assessed through the Business Office. Students will be required to comply with all rules and regulations of the University when parking on the campus. Sexual Harassment Policy
Harassment on the basis of sex is a violation of Section 703 of Title VII/IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. All members of the University community (students and employees) must be afforded protection under the provisions of this Act. As a matter of institutional policy, Rivier University will not tolerate behavior, either verbal or physical, by a member of the University community which leads to sexual harassment of another member of the University community. Any incident of alleged sexual harassment should be reported immediately to the Assistant Vice President for Student Development or the Director of Human Resources. Copies of the Sexual Harassment Policy can be obtained from the Office of Human Resources or the Assistant Vice President for Student Development.
Student Community/Student Conduct
The University makes every effort to maintain the highest standards of conduct and to promote among its constituents the spirit of loyalty to the University and its commitments. True to its aims and ideals, Rivier University endeavors to uphold moral and scholarly standards.
All members of the Rivier community share the responsibility to insure conditions conducive to the stated missions, processes, and function of the University. The University has the duty to develop policies and procedures that provide and safeguard its daily activities and to develop them within the context of general standards and with the broadest possible participation of the members of the University community.
University administrators welcome dialogue on current issues and on University policies. They ask only that students respect established channels of communication.
For students in graduate programs or in undergraduate evening programs, the primary channel of communication is through the Associate Vice President for Student Success or through a member of the Student Development Staff.
These processes of positive student involvement in campus life are viewed as integral to the educational experience.
Rivier University is a Roman Catholic liberal arts institution, founded by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. the University trusts that all students enroll voluntarily with the knowledge and understanding of Rivier’s mission. Commitment of self-discipline and mutual respect towards one another are expected of all members of the University community and are essential elements of a Christian-principled, Christian-centered environment. University rules and regulations are a means towards that end.
Sanctions are not considered the primary means of developing responsible student conduct. Example, precept, and exhortation are believed to be more effective agents for encouraging mature and responsible student behavior. When these fail, however, the University must assert its disciplinary authority. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Vice President for Student Development (or designee) to enforce all social regulations and to impose appropriate penalties for misconduct when necessary.
The University Chaplain joins other campus ministers as they seek to sustain the Christian community on campus with the pastoral care and liturgical worship it requires. The chaplain, in a special way, helps gather the Catholics on campus for prayer, worship, and learning that they might bring the light of the Gospel of Jesus to illumine the concerns and hopes of everyone in the Rivier University community.
The Chaplain exercises a sacramental role as he leads the community in prayerful celebration of the Eucharist and compassionate celebration of the sacrament of Reconciliation. He helps the community celebrate other events (Baptisms, Marriages, Funerals, Anniversaries) as needs arise.
The Chaplain teaches in the religious studies department and is available for pastoral counseling to all people, whatever their faith. He is ready to enlist the cooperation of ministers of other faiths/traditions to assist in his ministry.
The bookstore is located on the lower level of the Dion Center, on Clement Street. The bookstore has all of your university necessities, from textbooks, clothing, supplies, and more. The bookstore also carries many rental and digital textbook options. Credit cards, cash, and personal checks made payable to Rivier University Bookstore are accepted. Payment may also be made with student ID card, when money is put on account at the Business Office. In cooperation with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Rivier University participates in numerous veterans benefits programs. Students who are eligible for veterans’ benefits as determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs should contact the Veterans Coordinator at the time of application or at the start of the semester. The Veterans Coordinator is located in the Office of the Registrar, Adrienne Hall. To obtain benefits, the student must be enrolled in a degree program. Applications for veterans benefits may be obtained directly from the Department of Veterans Affairs by visiting VONAPP (Veterans Online Applications) website at http://vabenefits.vba.va.gov. VONAPP is the official U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website, which enables veterans to apply for benefits using the Internet.
